Eggs Are The OG Super Food

Here's the deal: asking a "favorite" in any category (movie, color, designer, TV show, song, etc), is a loaded question. BUT, nonetheless, I think I've finally come to terms with my favorite food: eggs.

Eggs are simple, to the point, and you can do endless things with them. They're like the food equivalent to a striped shirt. Dress it up, dress it down; eat it in the morning or at night; add some avocado (an accessory) and your Instagram picture just got 5 more likes.

Above is an egg frittata with red pepper, arugula, bacon, onion, and shiitake mushrooms. I think you can figure out the rest.

New Sandals

Just ordered these espadrille style sandals from Shopbop the other day.

Find them here or here.

The shoe ejects a very easy, relaxed vibe. They'd be perfect for a holiday in Tulum along the white sandy beaches.

That's all!

Plants I Dig

Definitely the first to get drunk at a party

Succulents are like the plant version of avocados.

They're trendy, 1 out of 3 hipsters in Brooklyn have them in their lofts, they're photogenic, and you're guaranteed to find them at any local brunch spot.

Its funny how for people in the South West, a cactus is equivalent to the lackluster pine tree us Midwesterners have at our doorstep. So when we come across a prickly, architectural, palm sized plant, minds = blown.

I'm a fan of these plants: they're small in size, amp up a desk space, and are very easy to take care of.

***Caution*** do not over hydrate these puppies, they will die, and it will be sad, because, who are you kidding, you definitely picked out a name for it.

A Kale-Detox Salad You Have to Try

If you follow me on Instagram, you'd know that I'm a foodie. But not one of those foodies whose obsessed with cupcakes and the best burger joints.

I'm all about healthy, satisfying, feel-good-and-not-bloated-after-you-eat-me food. You catching what I'm throwing?

Anyway this kale salad concoction is just that. It's refreshing, tasteful, and has all the health benefits you need for a quick pick me up.

Here's what you need:
  • 1 bunch a fresh kale
  • The juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • 4-6 strawberries
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 2 radish (washed)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Here's how you do it (I'm sure you could figure it out, but let me just play Martha Stewart for a minute):
  • Rip kale into bite sized pieces and wash thoroughly
  • Place kale in bowl and generously drizzle with lemon juice
  • Massage kale until tender
  • Slice celery, strawberries, and radish and place in bowl
  • Drizzle the dish with olive oil and sprinkle with s&p

VOILA! You did it! Your only one step closer to becoming Gwyneth Paltrow. All you have to do now is join SoulCycle and blog about it.

Breakfast

I recently made a short film for my journalism class about breakfast.

Seems like a pretty generic topic, right? Breakfast. Even the name is bland.

The film, however, is not. I was surprised to hear a variety of answers from my peers and I got a laugh out of it as well.

Take a look!

In A Mood...

It's Sunday and I'm in a mood.

The past couple of days have been good: I exercised consistently, ate right, slept a decent amount, and picked up some cash along the way.

Today feels like all of that good energy was just fucked in the ass... and wasn't even taken to dinner first! Not cool, Today, not cool.

Work sucked and I came home starving, so, I ate... too much... and now the guilt and sleepiness is taking a toll.

My question is: How does one remove themselves from this funk? I think the only logical response would be to literally remove themselves. But the mood is now festering like a bad itch and I can't shake it.

You know what I mean?

Do You Say 'Sneakers' or 'Tennis Shoes?

Im obsessed with shoes, but what girl or guy isn't?

It's funny: shoes are a universal fashion statement that both genders can love. Boys are obsessed with the new Jordan's just as much as girls obsess over a new pair of Rag and Bone boots.

Lately, I'm into sneakers. I love the versatility of them and how they make any outfit a little more chicer and a lot more comfortable.

Pictured above are saucony x Madewell sneakers in blue, the middle picture are Vans high tops (also purchased at Madewell), and the photo above are of my moms new Stan Smith Adidas Originals (yes, my mom is cooler than you).

Question of the day: do you say 'sneakers' or 'tennis shoes'?

I say 'sneakers' when referring to the ones above and 'tennis shoes' when talking about the shoes I wear to exercise in.

Beep Beep!

Well, fuck me!

Excuse my absence- these past two weeks have been stressful. Funny how the school year is wrapping, yet, my blood has reached its boiling point. I feel like these last couple weeks has just been one big blister ready to burst open.

When a blister bursts, it hurts, and you automatically regret popping it and know you should have listened to your mom (who is always right, by the way) and put Neosporin on it.

Okay here's the metaphor part: as work builds up, stress builds up and it's painful. You know you should have listened to your mom when she told you to do your work rather than watch Real Housewives (p.s.: there will most definitely be a Real Housewives of New York debrief coming soon to a blog near you).

This past year has been tough and I understand that next year will be tougher. We're in the final stretch [enter praise hands emoji here], but its not over yet.

It's weird how it took me all this time to finally learn time management. But, like most people, I'm a work in progress and that's okay.

How sick is that car, by the way?!

My First (and last) Baseball Game

Spotted: Man in lower left looking very excited. Woman adjacent, not so much

This past Sunday I went to my first baseball game, major league that is.

My dad had tickets and I was curious and also wanted the photo op so I said yes. The synopsis? Not my scene. I was, quite frankly, bored and its likely I won't return. Unless, of course, I acquire a boyfriend who is a baseball fan, then, yes, I will attend every game.

By the end of the, uh, 3rd inning (I think) my dad turned to me and said, "Well, if you're bored, you can always get drunk."

New Talent

I love learning new, insignificant skills... Like origami!

The fascination started last year when my geometry teacher told us if we learned origami we'd receive extra credit. I was all in. With a quick wikiHow search, I was pro.

Now my origami talents have reached a new high. Money origami. You heard that correctly folks. MONEY ORIGAMI.

Alright, so, it's nothing new. I'm sure you've seen it before, but I recently made this shirt out of a dollar bill and it was very satisfying.

That's all.

Heritage Bike x Levis

Yesterday I popped downtown to stop by the Levis party at Heritage Bike General Store.

If you're unfamiliar, Heritage is an awesome coffee and bike shop that brings a little bit of Brooklyn to Chicago. The party was in celebration of the new Levis commuter jeans. I was just there to score a cool pin. No really. I left feeling very accomplished because the pin pictured above sits perfectly on my backpack now.

Anyway, the shop is located in an otherwise not so lively of an area. Nonetheless, they have this amazing Moroccan mint tea (and they had free beer that night).

It was a perfect Saturday night by my standards.

In The Garden

Last week I spent my Sunday volunteering at our local community garden. I've been interested in lending a helping hand for a while now and was so glad to spend a few hours turning the soil, spreading fertilizer, and building vertical gardens.

Getting your hands dirty and feeling the Earth beneath us is powerful. It's relaxing being out in the warm sun on a Sunday doing a project that will pay off in the long run.

I'm looking forward to growing yummy produce this summer, all of which is donated to homeless shelters. Feels good.
